Abundant Wildlife
Animals you could see... The Jackson County North Park area has an abundance of wildlife. Among the larger animals are moose, bighorn sheep, black bear, mule deer and elk. Smaller mammals include the mountain lion, snowshoe hare, coyote, bobcat, beaver, weasel, pine marten, river otter, fox, marmot, and porcupine. Common birds include blue grouse, ptarmigan, golden eagle, bald eagle, Steller’s jay, gray jay, chickadee (mountain and black-capped), brown-capped rosy finch, gray-headed dark-eyed junco, and several species of waterfowl. Mountain Lakes
There is nothing more beautiful than the high mountain lakes that speckle the mountain ranges surrounding North Park. In State Forest State Park alone there are trails to six beautiful mountain lakes. As we make it to each of them personally, we will share the pictures here. read more
Panoramic Views
North Park, sometimes referred to as the Colorado Basin, is surrounded by mountain ranges. On the east side, it is rimmed by the Medicine Bow Mountains, the Never Summer Mountains and Rabbit Ears Range to the south, and the Park Range to the west. The continental divide rims the Park along the south and west. The valley along the Illinois River is the location of the Arapaho National Wildlife Refuge. In every direction, you see sprawling ranges and stunning peaks covered with dense forests. We will share pictures of the stunning views here as we are able. read more
